Mairam Zheldenbaeva weaves Kyrgyz bands, a type of band used to secure a yurt, which serves as a mobile home/wool felt tent.
Due to the situation in the outside world, we will unfortunately not meet Mairam Zheldenbaeva at VÄV2022. Mairam was invited to show in one of the weaving workshops how to weave Kyrgyz ribbons that keep the wooden stands taut in the traditional felted yurts. Visas are required for citizens of Kyrgyzstan to visit Sweden and at the moment it is not possible to settle. We hope to show the technology, tools and materials and meet Miriam Zheldenbaeva at some point in the future. Swedish Weaving Council
